2. Main Concerns Shared

A. Loss of Current Pastor

  • Some felt the decision was difficult after the church worked hard for 2.5–3 years without a pastor.

B. Desire for Fair Consideration

  • Members asked that the bishop and cabinet make this church a priority for a new appointment.

  • Concern that the church should not be overlooked because it has survived in the past.

C. Fear of Decline

  • Fear about members gradually leaving the church.

  • Strong encouragement not to give up or disengage.

  • Emphasis: “This is our church. We must continue to grow.”

3. Affirmations and Strengths

  • The church is a pillar in the community.

  • Members described the church as loving, welcoming, and caring.

  • Strong sense of fellowship and connection among members.

  • Recognition that “we are the church,” not just the building.

  • Gratitude for ministries, spiritual growth, and shared life together.

4. Practical Concerns

A. Need for Leadership

  • The church needs a pastor to guide and support the congregation.

  • Openness to different models (shared pastor, multi-church appointment).

B. Financial Support

  • Members emphasized the need to continue financial giving.

  • Reminder to “keep the lights on” and sustain ministry.

C. Demographic Needs

  • Concern about the aging congregation.

  • Desire for younger families and possibly a younger pastor.

D. Parsonage

  • The church has a parsonage available, which is seen as a strength for a future appointment.

5. Transition Timeline

  • Final Sunday at Patten: May 24

  • Final combined service (all churches): May 31 at Houlton UMC (10 AM)

  • Possible pastoral coverage needed for June

  • Meeting with District Superintendent (Rick McKinley) scheduled after Easter
