Patten Weekly Shine: Justice, Love & Holiness

At Doris' house

For those of us from the Korean community, March 1st is a very special day. Exactly 107 years ago, in 1919, the Korean people rose up in a peaceful independence movement, shouting for 'Liberty' and 'Justice.'

We remember that our God is a God of Freedom and Deliverance. Whether it was the Israelites leaving Egypt or the Korean people seeking independence, God hears the cry of the oppressed. Yesterday, we celebrated not just a historical event, but the Spirit of Liberty that God gives to all His children.

"He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God."

It is often said that if the entire Bible could be summarized in one sentence, it would be John 3:16; and if the Old Testament could be summarized in one sentence, it would be Micah 6:8.

In the 8th century BC, as Israel faced judgment amidst deep sin, the prophets brought vital messages: Amos prophesied the God of Justice, Hosea embodied the God of Love, and Isaiah emphasized God's Holiness. Micah beautifully summarizes these three, teaching us exactly how we should live today.

Do you ever feel lost or overwhelmed by difficult circumstances and confusion? In times like these, the only thing we truly must and can do is to humbly pursue holiness alongside our Lord, who is both Just and Loving. Please continue to pray for our church community, our nation, and the world.
