Patten Shine Weekly: Pentecost Sunday!!
The children got the Bible, and some of them started reading right away!!
Dear Church Family,
Tomorrow is Pentecost Sunday!
Jesus once said to us, "It is for your good that I am going away...
I will send the Holy Spirit to you... and I will be with you always" (John 16:7).
The disciples could not fully understand what those words meant at that exact moment. However, 50 days after Easter, God sent us His greatest gift: the Holy Spirit. Jesus was physically with us on Earth for 33 years, but through the Holy Spirit, God will never, ever leave us until the very end of time!
I am so deeply glad to celebrate my last Sunday with you in Patten on Pentecost. We truly cannot explain all the beautiful things that have happened here without the work of the Holy Spirit. Please pray for Les Hill’s testimony, our celebration of the Bible study ministries, and our potluck luncheon tomorrow.
We saw so many wonderful moves of the Holy Spirit this past week. Let’s celebrate who He is!
Gardiner Nursing Home Ministry
For 12 years, God has faithfully provided eight dedicated volunteers from our four Methodist churches for the Friday Bible study, and ten more people to serve the Third Sunday service. Praise the Lord!
Before COVID-19, Victor led the Bible study once a week, while Liz Taylor and Judy Conway played card games and spent time with the residents. After COVID, we restarted the nursing home ministry with a once-a-month service. In January of last year, Roberta asked if we could bring back a Bible study, and God immediately provided volunteers—especially Kristy Swallow, Jiang, and Hong. Now, we have three new residents joining Roberta and Sharon at Gardiner! God truly provides all we need.
Combined Women’s Bible Study & Party
Twenty-four incredible women gathered today to study the Book of Revelation and celebrate with a party!
Thank you so much to Rosalinda Maraya (leading the Women of Wisdom - WOW group) and Terry Pettengill (leading the Bible Thursday Study group).
Give a big hand to Helen Woods for her 12 years of faithful attendance in WOW! Helen has been a pillar of wisdom and experience for all of us.
Give a big hand to Nancy Perkins for over 25 years of faithful Bible study attendance alongside Terry!
We have studied, laughed, and cried together through all these years. May God continue to bless all of these wonderful ladies. I am going to miss them terribly!
The BTS group at Patten will start a Summer Bible Study on June 4th, diving into "Emotionally Healthy Spirituality" for an 8-week series! Also, keep an eye out for details on the Women’s Retreat coming up in August.
Thank God for Letting Us Live Among Our Saints!
Dickie and the Han family had a wonderful time together at Brookside Restaurant this week. He shared the rich history of his faithful life and of our church. Dickie has truly been a great father figure to us all!
I also just interviewed Barbara. I cannot wait for you all to hear her inspiring faith story during the first week of June! If you haven’t shared your own faith story yet, please let me or Terry know. We want to hear how God has moved in your life!
Nursing Home Bible Study & Planting Flowers
It was bittersweet to say goodbye during my last nursing home Bible study, but the residents blessed me so deeply through their sincere prayers. God bless every single one of our precious residents!
Cooking Class: Korean Bibimbap (Mixed Rice)
Our cooking class made a beautiful traditional Korean dish last Friday! All the ingredients of Bibimbap are completely different, but when they are mixed together with the rice and the sauce, they create a wonderful harmony and taste amazing.
Our church is exactly like that! We are all uniquely different, but through the Holy Spirit, we can become completely one—not by losing who we are, but by coming together in beautiful harmony. You will get to taste this delicious Korean food tomorrow at our potluck luncheon! Feel free to invite your friends and neighbors!
Looking forward to seeing you all!!
